EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Executive Committee is comprised of a representative from each of the following:

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
  1. The Executive Committee is comprised of a representative from each of the following agencies:
    • Arizona Historical Society
    • Arizona Humanities Council
    • Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records
    • Governor’s Division for Women
    • Sharlot Hall Museum
    In addition, a representative from the public shall serve on the Executive Committee for a term of one calendar year.
  2. Officers of the Executive Committee shall be selected at the first meeting of the calendar year. The Vice Chair will accede to the position of Chair should Chair be unable to complete the term.
  3. The Executive Committee shall meet monthly January through November.
  4. In the absence of the Chair from a meeting, the Vice Chair will preside at that meeting.
  5. Interim communication of the Executive Committee may be conducted by mail, telephone, or electronic means.
  6. The Executive Committee will select a Chair-Elect to work with the Chair of the Selection Committee on the selection process for the year.
  7. Members of the Executive Committee will review pending nomination files and select up to 10 semi-finalists to be considered for induction into the Arizona Women’ Hall of Fame by the Selection Committee.
  8. Criteria for consideration of nominations for the Arizona Women's Hall off Fame:
    • Nomination is on file at the Carnegie Center as of January 1st of any given year.
    • Information is considered sufficient for evaluation without supplement.
    • Nominee has made a significant contribution to Arizona.
    • Nominee has been deceased at least 2 years
    • Ethnic and geographic diversity
  9. The Executive Committee will select a Chair-Elect to work with the Chair of the Event Committee on the event process for the year.
  10. Each Executive Committee member will serve as Advisor to one of the 6 Event Subcommittees and report on progress and concerns of their subcommittee.
  11. The Chair of the Executive Committee will obtain approval from the Board of Library, Archives and Public Records, through the Director of the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, on the women chosen by the Selection Committee for induction into the Women’s Hall of Fame before the names are released to the public.

SELECTION COMMITTEE

The Selection Committee is composed of distinguished history scholars and community members from around the state who have expertise in one or more of the areas of achievement outlined in the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame’s Mission.

Recruited each year by the Executive Committee, the independent Selection Committee’s job is to select final nominees for induction into the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame from a list of semi-final nominees.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
  1. The Selection Committee is comprised of a Chair, a Chair-Elect, and 8 history scholars and community members from around the state invited to participate by the Chair and Chair-Elect, with approval from the Executive Committee.
  2. The Selection Committee members will be independently responsible to review a packet of material sent to them in April for each of the semi-final nominations to be considered for induction into the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame for the year, and to rank each nominee in order of personal preference.
  3. A summary sheet outlining each nominees’ contributions to the state, awards, birth and date information, area(s) and length of residence in Arizona.
  4. Using an Evaluation Sheet, each reviewer must:
    • Rate each nominee on a scale of 1 – 5, with 5 being “Excellent”, 4 “Good”, 3 “average”, 2 “Below Average” and 1 “Poor”. These ratings will assist the Executive Committee in determining whether a nominee remains in “Active Pending” status or is placed in “Considered” status, to be reviewed again only upon receipt of additional information.
    • Provide comments that will support and clarify their (1-5) rating for each of the nominees.
    • Rank each of the nominees in order of your favorites, with 1 being the reviewer’s top choice.
    • Fax their Evaluation Sheet to the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame Program, Carnegie Center, at (602) 256-7995 at least two days before the Selection Committee meeting date.
  5. Weighted criteria for consideration of nominations for the Arizona Women's Hall off Fame:
    • Nominee has made a significant contribution to Arizona
    • Length of time living in Arizona
    • Ethnic and geographic diversity
    • Information is considered sufficient for evaluation without supplement
    • Nominee has been deceased at least 2 years (requirement in affect as of January 1, 2005)
    • Nomination is on file at the Carnegie Center as of January 1 st of any given year
  6. The Selection Committee Chair will submit a list of the final nominees recommended for induction into the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame, including short biographies for each, to the Chair of the Executive Committee.
  7. The Selection Committee shall meet once in May to vote on the final nominees to be recommended for induction into the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame for the current year.

EVENT COMMITTEE

Interested persons are recruited each year to serve on the Events Committee, whose function is the planning and execution of a ceremony to honor the year’s honorees. The subcommittees comprising the Events Committee include the functions of administration, fundraising, logistics, printing and publicity, program, and reception.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
  1. The Events Committee is comprised of a Chair, a Chair-Elect, an Executive Committee Advisor, and 6 Subcommittee Chairs invited to participate by the Chair and Chair-Elect, with approval from the Executive Committee.
  2. The Executive Committee Advisor to each Subcommittee will report progress and concerns of their subcommittee to the Executive Committee.
  3. The 6 Subcommittees of the Events Committee are:

  4. The Administration Subcommittee duties include:
    • Event Staffing

  8. The Program Subcommittee duties include:
    • Ceremony

  9. The Reception Subcommittee duties include:
    • Decorations
    • Entertainment
    • Photography
    • Refreshments
  10. The Induction Ceremony will be conducted on a weekday in early October of each year, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Carnegie Center in the State Capitol Mall in Phoenix.
