You are invited to schedule your next meeting at the historic Carnegie Center, a Phoenix landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1908 with grant money from 19th century industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, it was the first public library building in Phoenix and home of the Phoenix Public Library until 1954.

The Carnegie Center is a symbol of continuity. In an era where so many places look alike, this unique building demonstrates the resilience and viability of its neighborhood.

After 1954, the building was used as a recreation hall, social service center, storage facility, and a way station for the homeless. In 1984 the building was restored at a cost of $1.3 million, but was closed in 2001 due to safety concerns.

Today, the Carnegie Center has been returned to its role as a multi-service center that serves workers and residents in downtown Phoenix and the eastern Capitol Mall.

Now part of the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, the Carnegie Center is centrally located and wheelchair accessible. The facility offers free visitor parking in the parking garage directly across the street in addition to the curbside parking on Washington and Jefferson Streets. The building and grounds are available for use. To inquire about available dates and times, contact Gloria Rojel by email or 602-926-3604 up to six months prior to the meeting date.
