We the People of Arizona
December 9, 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of Arizona's Constitutional Convention. The Constitution paved the way for statehood, and President Taft authorized Arizona’s statehood on Feb. 14, 1912.
From its inception, the Arizona Constitution was intended to be shaped by the people. As we celebrate our Centennial, learn how Arizonans have kept our constitution unique and alive.

This digital, searchable timeline chronicles every change, or amendment, made to the Arizona State Constitution since 1912. Amendments can originate in the legislature (referendum) or from Arizona citizens (initiative). Our timeline shows referendums in blue and initiatives in copper.
- Referendum amendments originate in the legislature and a majority vote in both houses is required to place the amendment on the ballot.
- Initiative amendments originate with Arizona citizens. They require enough voter signatures on a petition to place the amendment on a ballot.
