Volunteers share an interest in Arizona history and culture with Museum visitors

Customer Service Assistant

Duties

Assist the manager and store staff in the day to day operation of the Capitol Museum Store. The Museum Store is part of the Arizona Capitol Museum and offers merchandise that connects to and extends the museum tour experience. The revenue generated by store sales supports exhibits and programs the museum offers.

In this position you will meet, greet and assist customers with souvenir and gift purchases. You will offer support in store maintenance by maintaining displays and stocking merchandise. Occasional availability may be required for special Museum events.

Background and abilities

  • Cash handling experience
  • Previous experience or willingness to learn basic point of sale cash register system
  • Setting up displays of merchandise

Preferred Qualifications

  • Friendly and personable
  • Comfortable with cash, check, and electronic transactions
  • Familiarity with the Capitol and surrounding areas of interest

Tour Guides

Duties

Guides present 90 minute tours of the Museum's 22 exhibits for school children in grades kindergarten through twelve and for adult groups.

School tours are conducted in the morning and early afternoon; adult tours are scheduled at 10 AM and 2 PM.

Background and abilities

Tour guides have an interest in bringing Arizona history to children and adults. No experience is required. Staff and other volunteers will help train tour guides. Good people skills are essential.

Museum Ambassadors

Duties

Ambassadors offer a friendly welcome and information about the Museum and State Capitol when they connect visitors to the Museum's 22 exhibits and programs. Three hour shifts are available on weekday mornings and afternoons.

Ambassadors also oversee the guest register that museum visitors sign and assist with school and adult tours. Staff is always available to help with questions.

Volunteers have the opportunity to meet new friends and share an interest in Arizona history. Of course, we understand the need for flexibility for vacations and other personal commitments.
