Privacy Policy

Online Customer Service and Alternatives

The Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records (“Library and Archives”) offers online access to public information to make its programs and collections more readily available to the public. If you prefer, you may access this information and collections at the Library and Archives reading rooms. Note that much of the information held by the Library and Archives is in paper and is not available online.

Information We Collect

1. The Library and Archives web servers capture information about web requests in a standard log file. This information includes the IP address from which the request originated, the date and time of the request, and the webpage requested. (An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the web.) The log may include some additional information, such as the referring webpage. The originating IP alone seldom provides sufficient information to identify a specific user, although it is possible to identify the owner of the domain associated with that IP address. However, law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations can potentially use that information in conjunction with records of an Internet Service Provider to identify the account holder who requested a webpage. We use this information to generate statistics on the number of individuals who visit our website and the total number of webpages viewed.
2. The Library and Archives may request information voluntarily to provide certain services, such as registration for an event, or your email address so that we can respond to you.
3. The Library and Archives may ask for your library card number or your zip code and county. We collect this information to limit access to licensed content purchased for specific audiences in the state.
4. The Library and Archives website may use cookies to provide a user with greater continuity when browsing. Cookies do not contain personally identifying information.
5. The Library and Archives does not specifically request information from children. As a State agency we would comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Policy Protection Act of 1998 (“COPPA”), requiring parental consent before we collected any personal information from an individual under the age of 13. Personal Information in Library and Archives Collections

The Library and Archives is actively digitizing collections of historical records and publications so that they can be accessed over the web. These materials are of interest to genealogists, historians, and many others. Library and Archives reviews collections before they are put on the web to ensure they do not contain personally identifying information, such as social security numbers, birth dates, or other information that could be used in identity theft.

Because we are not able to review each record individually, it is possible that personally identifying information in isolated records are available on the web. If you find personally identifying information in a record, please contact the Webmaster so we can take it down.

Release of Personal Information

Arizona laws ensure that state government is open and that the public has a right to access appropriate records and information possessed by the state. As such, the Library and Archives may be obliged to release records containing information we have collected within the limits of state law and the federal Privacy Act of 1974.
