Arizona's 99th Statehood Day Celebration

Observed February 14, 2011


Coordinated by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, the Statehood Day program was observed on February 14, 2014, in the Capitol’s Historic Senate Chamber. The ceremony was emceed by State Librarian GladysAnn Wells.

The Trevor G. Browne Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps presented the colors. Speaker of the House Kirk Adams made opening remarks and Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch led the Pledge of Allegiance. Tim Bee, Director of the Governor’s Southern Arizona Office, read a Proclamation from Governor Jan Brewer commemorating the day.

Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal recognized 12 student winners of the Polly Rosenbaum Writing Contest. The contest is sponsored by the Arizona Educational Foundation and APS. After the ceremony, the students met with Superintendent Huppenthal and read their winning entries.

Many projects and programs of the State Library, Archives and Public Records were displayed in the Capitol rotunda and lawns to prepare for next year’s Centennial.
