Statewide Programs

An important goal of the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records is to promote the statewide collaboration of historical and cultural institutions.   All divisions of this agency, which include museums, the State Archives, libraries and a records management center, work together in pursuit of this goal.   Projects include:

  • Arizona Archives Summit
The Arizona Archives Summit is a multi-year project to develop a statewide collaborative model of collection management practices. The Summit brings together representatives from archives, historical societies, museums and libraries from around Arizona.
  • Arizona Convocation
These are annual gatherings building bridges between librarians, archivists, museum professionals, genealogists, and others responsible for and interested in preserving Arizona's cultural heritage.  The Convocations enable these individuals to share information about their collections and programs, to discover opportunities for collaboration and resource sharing, and to promote public access to the books, records, and objects of Arizona's past.
  • Arizona Cultural Inventory Project
This is a comprehensive listing of all libraries, archives, and museums in Arizona, including a description of the repositories' mission and scope of collections.   The Cultural Inventory Project (CIP) is building a catalog of collections of unique and rare Arizoniana.  The CIP will help historians and genealogists locate materials relevant to their research interests.   It will also help archivists, museum professionals, and librarians use their limited resources more wisely by avoiding duplication in collecting, preservation and cataloging.
  • Arizona Memory Project
The Arizona Memory Project is an online effort to provide access to the wealth of primary sources in Arizona libraries, archives, museums and other cultural institutions. This initiative provides the opportunity to view some of the best examples of government documents, photographs, maps, and objects that chronicle Arizona's past and present.
  • Arizona Newspaper Project
Newspapers are indispensable resources for historians, genealogists, journalists and business people.   In order to preserve this valuable resource, the Arizona Newspaper Project (ANP), in partnership with the United States Newspaper Project at the Library of Congress and the National Endowment for the Humanities, is working to locate, catalog and microfilm newspapers throughout the state.
  • Professional Collection
This is a circulating collection intended to serve the needs of Arizona professionals, students, trustees and other practitioners in the fields of archives and records management, conservation and preservation of materials, museology and librarianship.  The collection can be utilized for research, professional development, accreditation preparation, exhibits, public programs, or other related educational and career enhancement purposes.  The collection is housed in the Law and Research Library.   An item may be checked out for a two week period by requesting the item through inter-library loan, by contacting the Law and Research Library, or by coming to the library in person.
